History: Mesquite was founded in 1878, along the Texas & Pacific Railway. When the city was still young, it was known for having a large number of outlaws who resided in the area. In the 19th and early 20th century, Mesquite continued to prosper from its agricultural community, producing cotton, hay, corn, and sugar. In the 1970s, the LBJ Freeway was completed, connected the city to those neighboring it. Up until 2011, Mesquite did not allow any beer or wine sales within the city, one of the very few cities in DFW to do this. Mesquite is now a suburb city of Dallas, with a population of over 142,000 people, making it the 22nd most populated city in Texas.
